A CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SHOW INSPIRED BY ORWELL'S "ANIMAL FARM"

The show tells the story of what happened on the farm 50 years later.

The pigs have achieved absolute power in the animal society with a false form of democracy, which has never been threatened by any political opposition... until now.

Four women in effective animal masks tell a potent story about power, discrimination and persecution - and of a young, forbidden love affair between two animals of different races.

'Animals' was nominated for a Reumert in 2023.

"Fascism gets hit in the snout in this Orwell inspired dystopia. Meridiano Theatre and Theatre Tix remind us of the fragility of democracy (...) A truly accomplished piece with thematic weight and theatrical flair, which can be recommended heartedly."

TEATERAVISEN

"The fight for justice behind the slammed doors was devastatingly beautiful!"

REUMERT JURY

"ANIMALS is a story of the functioning of totalitarian reality as told by Orwell, brilliantly narrated in the mask theatre convention."

MERIDIANO TEATRET

Meridiano was founded in 1996 by Italian dramatist and director Giacomo Ravicchio and actors Elise Müller and Lars Begtrup.

Magical realism, poetry, humour and a visual - almost cinematic - narrative form is characteristic of Giacomo Ravicchio's performances.

The theatre has created a sophisticated artistic idiom with performances that speak to the senses across cultures, generations and social backgrounds. The topics are mythical and existential, dealing with what it is to be human. The performances are composed musically, interweaving diverse theatrical forms in graceful rhythms. The theatre constantly explores new modes of expression in order to revitalize theatre as a form of expression and to create its unique universal idiom.
